Robin has had an interest in art
since an early age. Her first works were pencil and crayon
drawings where she produced hundreds of horse images that depicted the
“dream horses” of her imagination. Today, Robin still loves
to create art and still loves horses. She manages to combine the
two at her country home outside of Elgin where she shares her life with
a menagerie of animals and has established Two Sisters Studio.
Throughout the years, Robin has explored
various art mediums including collage and mosaics but, in 2003 she
discovered a new medium….fused glass. After taking a couple
of introductory classes to learn the fundamentals of glass fusing,
Robin decided that this was the art medium that best suited her talents
and has since opened Two Sisters Studio where she produces
“functional” glass art. Her endeavors are artistic but most
can also be used in a functional way such as platters, bowls and
picture frames. The studio is equipped with a fusing kiln and
various other equipment for working glass but best of all, the windows
of the studio allow the natural country setting to serve as an
inspiration.
In a very simplified nutshell, fusing
glass is a technical process where individual glass pieces are arranged
into a design and then heated to a high temperature in a kiln where the
glass fuses (melts) into a single piece. Once fused, the glass
can be reheated to form a particular shape such as a bowl.
Robin’s work is for sale at local
gift shops and by private commission. She is a member of the Bastrop
Fine Arts Guild. For more information please call (512) 635-2194.
